He says, “mares are where all of the greatness comes from,” when asked about them.Lucas points out one of his favorite mares in the broodmare band.Lucas checks the amount of feed before he dumps it into the bucket.Lucas adds in supplements to one of the horse’s feed buckets.Lucas unloads a wrapped hay bale for one of the horses. “Some of our horses are on special diets depending on thier activity level.”Lucas carries in more of the wrapped hay. “Today I had to unload 10 bales, would have been more, but the store didn’t have anymore.”After feeding, Lucas begins cleans the bedding in the trailer and checking for any maintenance issues.In getting ready for hauling a horse he has sold, Lucas checks bolt size in order to remove plexi glass.“It’s getting to warm, don’t want the horse to overheat when I take him to the sale.”Before Lucas heads to the truck to head home, Lucas catches his personal horse. “Despite him being scared to death of men, he comes up to me.”As Lucas finishes up work at the barn, he gets a call to go into his full time job.
