Pheasant Phestival Pup Crawl returns to Aberdeen
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The second annual Pheasant Phestival Pup Crawl event is set to take place this Thursday evening in downtown Aberdeen at Malchow’s Plaza.
“The annual event raises awareness for Aberdeen Area Humane Society as well as much needed donations to help support operations,” Grandstrand said.
The dog-friendly event hosted by Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau with Kathrine Grandstrand serving as event coordinator. All proceeds go to the Aberdeen Area Humane Society.
“A successful turnout last year, raised over $600 for the local pet rescue organizations,” Grandstrand said.
“When you go pheasant hunting, it just wouldn’t be the same without the dogs,” Grandstrand said. “We want people will come out and meet the dogs from the shelter, connect with them and hopefully someone will take one home to train to hunt.”
Annie Stenvig, a board member for the Humane Society, explained that they serve a large area of northeast South Dakota.
“The Humane Society is 100% funded through community donations,” Stenvig said. “We aren’t affiliated with any national organizations, so any fundraisers help.”
Angela Smith, who attended the event with her son, a local Boy Scout, from Troop 359 said the event would be a great way to raise awareness.
“I thought it would be a way to get kids out to sell popcorn,” Smith said. “Plus, the dogs are really cute.”
Local hockey team, Aberdeen Wings, was in attendance. They ran the hot dog stand, played toss with kids and took lots of photos with the dogs who attended. Megan Rosendahl, a member of the hockey team’s marketing group said, the team does quite a bit of volunteer work.
“Sports are popular,” she said. “We try to get the guys out to a do a lot with the community to help bring awareness to different organizations.”
The area is filled with local vendors, a hot dog stand and dogs looking for love. Donations are encouraged and the event was open to anyone even if you don’t have a dog.
Pheasant Phestival Pup Crawl started at 4 p.m. and ended at 7 p.m.
